Yes, i know its a repeat subject, but as i don't have enough money for a propex heater, i need some cheap and easy ways to improve my heating..

i have a few ideas, just want some advice

1. tape up my front vents, underneath the grill so no bloody cold air can get in, in summer i have windows to open so the cold air is not very useful in the cab.. good or bad idea?

2. install new heater pipes (the crappy card one that runs underneath) what do you suggest, and where can i get it from?

3. new seals on the front doors (mine are rubbish and very, VERY drafty)

4. could somebody tell me exactly how to use my stock heater?! i have a 71', 4 leavers (2 blue, 2 red) but my colored rubber bits fell off long ago so i don't have a clue which ones which and how to use them! how do i get the cab heaters to blow hot air instead of freezing arctic ice balls in the face!?

any help is greatly appreciated

top tip. When exhaling, turn your head to the side to reduce misting up the front screen :)

Its a good idea to get rid of any drafts. New door rubbers should help, but spend more money to get quality items that will fit well.

My front vents have rubber seals around them, so they are pretty air tight when closed. Its probably a good idea to block them up as a temp measure if yours are drafty.

Im sure the others will help you find new heater pipes and all the other gubbins.

Failing that buy a hat, scalf, gloves and a german parka. My van is never toastie but its bareable.

Cheaper than a propex

Put it on your list to Santa :)

i got some new seals for the cab doors, i'll fit them once i get my passenger cab door lifted up, doesn't fit too well... i think i'll tape the vents anyway, because to be fair if i want cool air, i'll open the windows!

Under the front grill replace the rubber seal, the two blue levers on the dash need to be pushed up fully. (before pushing them up fully ensure the cables (see under dash) conneting the front grill vents (moving apetures) to the levers is tight.

Standard heating on my bus is ok and clearers the window.

I have brand new heat exchangers and all the pipe work is in place (and lagged in places), still does not produce what i call substantial heat.

For £75 you could buy a bilge pump to help blow the heat round

Although most people will recommend either propex or webasto heaters.

Real world old VWs are drafty.

what you got some heating 8) , your lucky all I get is fumes, so I've nvestigated in a new wooly hat as it's cheaper than heat exchangers

thermal underwear is the answer, long johns , longsleeve vest , socks , hat & body warmer. added advantage is that you dont notice the temp drop when you get out

Oh dear, that will have to wait until my new front panel is fitted

My colored bits for the levers have gone =( the blue were on the left i think (RHD bus) so i'll get that checked

I dont do heat exchangers full stop. No heat, just fumes leading to banging headaches! Nice..

J-Tubes & warm cloths :)

This is your problem... New heat exchangers have very few fins on them so they don't put out much heat.

I think there is room on the early bay scene for someone to start experimenting with a nice combi boiler and a couple of Rads

Maybe bung in a shower too...

Just a thought
