Reet, I went up to Dj's VW shop on Satada & got some minty mint heat exchangers, I keep forgetting about his place but it's a proper treasure trove up in the eves if your not too bad with heights!!

All good so far!!

But on closer inspection of the other one,

Now I'm sure this wasn't like this when I picked it up, all I can think of is when Banty's son fell off the ladder whilst holding it he may have selfishly dropped my new heat exchanger just to save his own life??!!!?!! :rolf:

Any how,

There are some copper gaskets to change way down in there & the tinware needs modifying  why is nowt ever simple????

Oh & Mr P has got the stereo working, electrifying stuff indeed!!! & stripped & rebuilt the carb too :) :D

I've not been slacking, honest Guvnor, I've been trying to find tinware etc!!!
But I gave up & made/ modified some instead!!

This bit needed to be round at this end & oval at the other,,

So I bashed its head in & Darren welded it to a collar thing I found,

Squashed the other end a bit,

The one under tin I did have didn't fit with the back/ front tin,

See?

So I bashed that bits head in too,

Instead of welding it I pop riveted a bit to it and fitted a couple of speed clips and self tapered it in to place,

Looks canny I reckon!!!

Also a small repair on the side of it too,

I just missed out on a nice under tin for the other side on eBay

So I set about making it instead, not an exact copy, but it'll do the job??

Started with a side panel cut out of a transit van,

I've changed the fuse for a much smaller one 30 or 40 I think.

Then I flung the engine in!!!
After Darren fitted the oil seal & clutch etc.

But I scratched all the top of it :(

So I painted it in again! :D

Note the top is scratched.

Again!

Wrong flywheel, or wrong gearbox, but seeing as flywheels are cheaper, we'll go with that!!!!

A trip to restore n more before work in the morning me reckons!!!!!!

Ahh man thanks some bad luck, should it have a 6 Rib box in it ?
I helped a friend fit his Type4 and I must say I enjoyed it about as much as a kick teeth.

A 6 rib box would be nice but £££!!!
& hard to find!!

Saying that a 1700 flywheel is proving tricky to locate too!!
Anyone got a spare one lying about???

Lee is it a 215mm fly wheel you need ? There is one on for sale on Volkszone
