So, while ago I purchased an uprated clutch release arm kit made by Bugpack as I'm running a Kennedy stage 1 pressure plate and thought this would be an improvement.

Just got round to fitting it this week, one word sums this up, ****!

* The forks coming of the shaft, while reinforced and welded all the way round the bar are wonky.
* The supplied spring is weak.
* The circlips barely fit in the grooves and have very little tension.
* The supplied urethrane bush is loose.

Basically the dustmen can collect the lot if they want.

I purchased this thinking it would be of higher quality but as far as I'm concerned that £41 down the toilet. When helpful chaps like Trikky and Sparkywig stick posts out there and tell you to use an original arm but reinforce it with additional welds take that advice.

Cogbox have now sorted me out with all the original parts I need including an updated solid (brass, I think) bush, shims, an original release arm, spring, circlips for a fraction of the cost of the Bugpack item, plus Peter is a really helpful knowledgable chap, luckily he is only five minutes from me

Sorry to hear of your findings.

Non genuine aftermarket parts are a problem area, not just for our old VWs. It even affects modern cars.

Not long ago thousands of dodgy brake pads for a whole variety of cars were seized because they were fakes packaged as real. On testing they were not only fake but the materials used were dangerously inferior.

This causes another problem. Those many companies who produce good quality aftermarket parts suffer because there can be a tendancy to tar all of them with the same brush - which is unfair.

Anybody considering upgraded components (or any parts IMO) would be well advised to only buy from established suppliers with a good reputation. Its worth it.

If I were considering buying some upgraded parts for my bus that I did not have previous experience of, I would try to check them out by asking somebody in the business first (like Alex for instance).

Thanks for posting this up though since it might save somebody else some trouble.

Pete at Cogbox rocks! He refurbed my Solex 34 carb, as said a very clever and helpful geezer.
