I woke up this morning and crawled out of bed five minutes earlier than on a weekday in order to get up to Mottingham to collect the new van.

All went well and the van looked & drove well...

The I felt something go ping, couldn't engage gear and realised I had a clutch problem. I eventually got to Loughborough by starting the engine ina gear and sticking in it...

So after the princely total of 22 miles having bought the van it had broken down and needed to be carried home by a recovery lorry (superbly provided by Footman James as part of my insurance by the way!).

The AA had also dropped by and the guy was happy to fit the spare cable I'd been given with the van but he found the problem to be inside the clutch. So the day ended with me creeping home in a courtesy car with the van due to be delivered earlyt next week. It'll need to go to the garage down the road before I can show it off.

How about that - can anyone beat that for a start to ownership?!!

What a bummer :( :( .,.,... But look on the bright side.... just about everyone takes a turn on the back of a recovery lorry at sometime.... so...... you've got your turn out of the way...... It will be all good from now on :D :D..... Bus looks good by the way

Dead right dude! It is great and the frustrating thing was I was just starting to feel confident shifting gear with the right hand and was enjoying the ride. The compliments I hhad from both guys by the roadside were great too, both being into their old cars.

Teething problems Mike, that's all !

:)

sweet new ride, you'll soon laugh this off next time your driving it again.

Glad to see you sorted with another van again.

very nice looking van one of my favourite colours, its teething problems nothing more, ive just done the clutch on my 68 its easy ;) if it makes you feel any better my teething problems resulted in me rebuilding an engine but heyho sorted now and enjoying it as I'm sure you'll be doing soon too :party0049:

I like the look of the van Mike :D :D Should be a stright forward fix m8.

It will look good in the Herne Bay car show next year ;) ;)

I made it about 250 yards before mine broke down, managed to limp another 500 yards down the road before getting recovered, had to get it out of view as the original owners family were waving at me(the owner had died a short while before)..

Looks like a nice bus you've got there!

Ah hell, think of it this way,,,,,,,,,,

You got about 200mpg on your first run

Fix it, **** it, fixit again and you will fall in love again

Remember the best way to get over one lost love is,,,,,,
To get under another   ;)

problem is mike clutches dont work well that high off the ground! its like fatigue on areoplane parts!
looking forward to having a good look at this beastie!

Hi Mike

Really glad to see a bus in your possession again. Breaking down is a bummer...but at least you have a bus to breakdown!!!

Your insurance company much really love you!!! A trailer home is now cheap, when I got towed home from Devon the recovery company told me it would have cost about £500 if I had to pay for it!!!

If they give you good terms when you need to renew then I'd seriously think about going with them next time. As you have said before, you only know how good an insurance company is is when you claim.

We did much the same as you. Bought bus on a Saturday. New insurance started at midday including breakdown. 6pm and 150 miles under our belt we were calling the recovery truck to get us the remaing 150 miles. Ours turned out to be a dog and been off the road for two years for a complete resto- hope your ownership gets better than ours! Looks stunning and sure it will be an awesome bus when any teething issues are ironed out :)

hi yes i can beat that lol i had my van 2 weeks all went well went to a festival in it .... then on a ten minute trip to nip the kids home the engine caught fire causing £3,800 worth of damage .... guess were i was when it started to burn .... in the next street to the fire station

one , clutch , three engines ( not too special though) various elec niggles we are now touch wood nearly 6 monthes from meeting the RAC man, i am sure he misses us as he waves each time he goes by!!!

john the horse :D

i agree the clutch failed due to the thin atmosphere at that height
