Thinking of doing an oil change soon. What oil is recommended for a stock 1600 engine?
If the mileage is unknown but likely to be high do i need 'high mileage' oil?
What else should i do - oil filter change etc?
Any advice appreciated.
Thanks
Rob

I was recommended to use Halfords classic car oil, it comes in an old fashioned oil can coloured green and cream. Rated 20w50. Tis good stuff.

Thanks guys, just bought Halfoirds Classic car oil. Is there a filter to change or do i have to clean the oil strainer and replace the gaskets?

I also found these usefull........

Drop the strainer out, clean gaskets off sump and strainer, wash strainer in some petrol and leave to dry.
Refit strainer with a gasket either side, one between strainer and sump, one between strainer and sump plate. Genitally tighten up fixings, dont over do these they spin in the case very easly, I think its 5Nm from memory, but I found even this was too much for a couple In one of my engines.
Get yourself a magnetic sump plug if you dont have one already.
And fill with 2.75 Liters (check this as Im quoting from memory) of a good detergent free mineral oil, dont overfill as it can blow the crank seal at the fly wheel end.
I used to run morris 20w50 gold and never had any issue winter or summer even in southern France at around 38 C.
