I had the same with a mountain biking forum, asked for some advice on rides and possible meets in Cornwall, and was told they didn't want tourists on their routes.

"tourists" good one
Sound like the local surfers here in California , they'll fight you if you try to get on one of their waves in some places

ive heard of the Surf Nazis, im sure everyone has seen 'Point Break', but mountain biking Nazis? thats a new one.

I joined an auto electrical forum, I put a post up saying hello - It's had fifty views and no replies  Miserable f##kers

Our belgian Vespa forum has gotten bit unfriendly too, grew too large with wannabe hipsters buying old vespa's and
asking why it's blowing blue smoke
Or "help! my vespa makes a 'clank' noise when I put it in first"!!
To "I bought a sports exhaust for my 2-stroke and now it's too loud, what do I do now"?
And "How can I mount my license plate on my scooter because the holes don't line up"

So the oldtimers got pissed

to some people drilling 2 holes to remount a number plate if a big deal.why would it piss people off?if everyone was as capable as each other tec wouldent be there at all.i sometimes read posts that im my mind have simple answers but in someone elses might seem like an imposible task. the way we come aross these forums usually is while trying to solve a problem.so why slate the poor buggers that come along with little or no knowlage and just want what is a simple answer?

couldnt agree more dude

I was on the Bristol Cars forum (I know...I know) and someone doing a University design project wanted more information on the marque. Cue a bunch of grumpy old men who criticised the students grammer and lack of knowledge etc.

I was forced to call them a bunch of cocks and promptly left the forum. I hate all that unfriendly stuff. I only visit here now

I've just tried to join a Border terrier forum to ask for some help with Seths health (he seems to be having bad stomach cramps) and my thread was deleted as they don't mention things like that on there

You are right, Strongy - a forum is just that - a place to ask questions.
But don't you agree that it's all too easy to start bombarding a forum with simple questions when the answers are up for grabs in the manual or even the search function of said forum? I have no problem with answering questions, nor is there something like a stupid question, just stupid answers.
Just asking without investigating the obvious first is just plain lazy.
As the old saying goes, owning a vespa requires the owner to become a mechanic (same goes for our early bays  )
And I love it, but it's not for everyone.
A lot of people see old cars, scooters as instant coolness but abandon their fashion item when it goes out of fashion.
Or when it stops working
And then they start bombing the forums
Makes me wonder what people did before the 'net - Oh right they asked their neighbour ;)

i am guilty of not using the search functions.2 ways of looking at it,i read thru the posts on hear and else where for enjoyment, and gain knowlage along the way.knowlage that i dident nesaserally want to search for but am happy to know all the same.if everyone used the search function these posts would slip me by and i would have never came across them.i know where your coming from and sometimes think the same but theres probably someone else sat there thinking "i never knew that"

with a forum that is massive say vzi.if all the members just used the search function there would be no posts in the tec as over the years im sure everything has been answerd.so do we close it down and call it a day?

but yes. i can see how posts asking for the valve clearences on a 1.6 aircooled engine could frustrait people, but again someone new to aircooled scene that have just only recently learned the fact could be made to feel part of the forum by answering the question.

 im bored can u tell?bloody bad back

Sounds a bit like the LFC reds forum
Anyone who dares to criticise Rafa is
derided as a closet manc or the
anti-christ.
Yet everyone in the real world knows
he's f##king clueless & needs to f##k off asap
Before he ruins us forever
