Can anyone give me an idea how long it'd take to replace the outer scraper on the cab door please? Anyone know of anyone in the West Yorkshire area who may be able to help me and what it's likely to cost :?: :?: :?:
Cheers

If its the first time you have replaced a scraper leave a full afternoon as its an arse of a job!

Have a look on my thread for some pics of the one I did recently - you need to strip the door down, door cards off, glass out and quarter light off and carefully remove the old scraper.

Good luck - I still have the drivers side to do!

Oh as for cost - apart from the scraper which are about £40 I think, its free!

Feel free to get in touch with me, I'm in Bradford and I'm finishing off restoring my '69 - put the doors back together with new scrapers etc about a month ago so it's all still fresh in my mind!
It's a bit fiddly but it was only a man who put it together in the first place . . .

I bought the scrapers from Custom and Commercial - not cheap but pretty happy with the quality. At the end of the day, you don't want to be doing this twice, so quality and a good fit is worth paying for.

The biggest problem you might have is knowing when to stop spending - while you've got it in bits do you want to replace the felts, quarter light rubbers, inner scraper . . . . .
One really good tip - thought strictly this only relates to the inner scrapers, is to use the original metal wire with the new rubber, then you know it will fit!

An easily overlooked part of the job is to make sure you seal the door from the door card when you've finished - water will always get into the door no matter how good the scrapers are! Polythene sheet with flaps to keep water in the door and directed down to the drain holes is very helpful.

PM me if you want to have a chat, I'm quite happy to meet up and give you some pointers, help you out and all that.
Best wishes,
Si.

ps - post should probably be in the technical section rather than parts for sale wanted . . .

Cheers Si - will start tinkering this weekend and thanks for the pointer to technical! No doubt you will be hearing from me :D Simon

Useful thread to help you ...

Did mine recently on 69 resto, inc all new scrapers, rubbers, etc - not difficult - worst bit is removing / refitting the quarter light without scratching paint or damaging trim

Herbie Hospital did a photo shoot of the job recently but can't find it.

Cheers

Cheers Si.

Spent over 2 hours trying to fit eye lids this morning... the joy! One of the rims was knackered and is now really knackered so need to replace that. Was going to replace curtains too but have to take the bl**dy wardrobe out to get to the one behind that. All in good time - there's a company in Halifax who have quoted me on the scrapers as i'll probably end up spoiling the paintwork. I might have a go at the rear screen rubber though, that shouldn't be too bad! Cheers for the message.
