Hi

I'm looking to put a full length ply headliner in my van.

I only have a cab headliner at present, but thats starting to come adrfit - I think its the damp....bugger, thats also helping the rust. Theres no evidence of a headliner of any sort in the rear - no brackets, no holes nothing! :?

Looking at the various forum threads it looks like 3mm ply, finished with yacht varnish is the thing to do. Then theres the fitting. It looks as though you need 'j' brackets that run down the side of the roof. Schofields are mentioned as a supplier.
How high do you mount the brackets?
What do people use to join the sections used to make the headliner?
Is anything used across the front and rear or is it just the sides? If not how do you finish off the front and rear?
Does anyone out there have measurements for the panels?

As usual close up photos (original ply roofliners would be good to see, warts and all as well as replaced items) - particularly interested in the front and rear areas so I can see what I need to do.

Thanks, Nigel

Well worth having a look at Egotrippins resto thread...it has to be one of the best ply roof liners I've seen

I used 1.5mm birch ply for my headlining. It's really really bendy as it's so thin, but it does support itself once in providing you use the supporting bars.

You'll need three 5ft x 5ft sheets of it, and you can only get it from a timber yard, they'll have to order it in. I got some last week to do a mates split with, and we paid £25 a sheet for it.

It's thin enough that you can cut with a stanley knife or scissors. I stained mine with clear satin yacht varnish.

Have fun!

Now doing mine got some 3mm birch ply from a ply dealer in thurock .They supply 5 x 5 sheets and it was here next day worked out under £10 a sheet
I will post the company name tommorrow as the invoice is at work
Cheers
