Possibly the problem to my charging issues?

Morning,

yesterday I got myself a battery charger. I stuck it on charge last night and within half hour, the battery was up to 20% charge. Left it overnight and when I got up this morning, it was still only at 20%.

So, here's the question, does the G charge light in anyway test the charge rate of the battery or is it just the dynamo? Could the battery be the problem or is this just a by product of the dodgy dynamo/regulator charge system or just a coincidence?

Cheers

The charge light only comes on when the alternator / generator output falls below the pre defined level. The charge rate of the battery isn't tested by the G Charge Light. Looks like the battery could be damaged.

Buy a new battery dood, it sounds like it iz at the end of its days :D

The genny light is fed from both battery and genny (dynamo or alternator) and will get 12v either side of the lamp

when ignition switch turned you get a red light this indicates you have 12v from battery (if its dim check battery) no dynamo voltage as its not rotating.

fire the engine up and the dynamo starts providing that valuable charge to the battery you now have the same potential on both lamp terminals so no current flow light extinguishes good news :D

if it comes on whilst driving it indicates numerous things including low charge from dynamo which can be an ill fitting / snapped belt, shagged dynamo (polarising may clear this) duff bushes or regulator gone tits it could also indicate that the battery has given up the ghost....

Ok cheers people,

will pick up a batteryon the way home tonight and have another go at it, see what happens and then start the dynamo checks if the light is still there! At least the battery will have enough charge for a few starts for checks and I don't have to keep jumping it every 5 minutes!

Will keep you updated on my progress (aren't you the lucky ones eh?)

Ok, update no. 301.

I've tested and retested and now know the brake light issue is definitely the pressure switch jobby in the master cylinder. I have a tandem master cylinder with two switches that have 3 connections to each. Looking at he haynes manual it says these are both switches. Any idea how I find out which switch has gone? How do I change them and where do I get them from?

Also, tested the dynamo as instructed in the manual and when revved gives out over 35 amps or is it volts? Anyway, when idling it doesn't go down to zero so the manual say this means the regulator is faulty. Does this sound familiar to anyone?

Thanks everyone!
Sean
