Hi i fitted a quick shft plate a while ago and am now having problems getting 1st and 2nd, the main problem is when changing down gears any ideas that can help me would be ace.
Thanks Andy

Try loosening the 2 securing bolts and retightening with the stick in 2nd gear. Also theres a plastic bush at the front of the shift rod that wears out but alot of time the problem is the rear coupling where the rod attaches to the gearbox, neither of these parts are very expensive and are fairly easy to replace.
The VW Heritage Cat. has a good exploded diagram.

I've replaced the plastic bushes and even fitted a different gearbox (wich at least doesn't makes a sound) but also have the problem wtih 1st and 2nd gear... Somebody an idea?
I'm thinking the shift rod is not straight because it was hanging at an angle with the gearbox during restoration. Or the attachment from the shift rod to the gearhandle underneath the bus(floor).

THe question is answered the same way, probably just the adjustment on the two 13mm head bolts holding the shifter down. Loosen them up and slide the plate 1/8" to 3/16" and see how it feels. THe shift coupler allows the trans to hang at an angle no problem. You should replace your shift coupler at the same time as the trans and other bushes.
