Whilst moving the van today I noticed that if I pushed the clutch pedal all the way there was a nice graunching rotating noise from the back - obviously something is not adjusted correctly - gearbox/cable hasn't been touched for years (van is off the road) but I did pop the engine back in recently - having taken off the clutch etc etc...
