Rack and Pinion?

Anyone upgraded their steering to a rack and pinion?

I am looking at Cool Airs own at 695 for a 71 bay. They reckon it should only take four hours to fit so at 40 quid an hour :shock: mechanic costs I should be able to get it done for under a grand.

Does it make a difference? Anything else I need to consider with this?

I have only driven a -66 split with rack and pinion. I think it ads nothing and takes away that good, loose "surfy" feeling of druving a vw bus. Wouldn't do it even if it was for free!
