Hi one and all.

I have just put a 68 running gear on my splitscreen. and having a few problems.

the far side hub has come off easily and I have removed the braking shoes etc. whilst off I thought I'd take of the backing plate and give it a clean and a paint but it's stuck. I have taken the 2 nuts out at the bottom and it seems free at the top but something is catching at the bottom where the brake adjusters are. I had a look in the back behind and there is a small indent below the 2 holes were and I thought that there may be a dowl or something. I've given it a knock but still no joy.

So QUESTION 1: am I not hitting it hard enough or is there something I am missing. I don't have much in the way of light in the barn so I could have missed something easily.

QUESTION 2: Behind the rear hub in the spring plate there is a rubber gromit. does the metal brake line run through it ? and also is there flexi hoses on a rear 68 earlybay and where do they go. I've noticed 2 brake line holders on the swing arm, anybody with with photo's of a completed system don't be shy putting them up.

Finally Question 3: the rear near side ! my god. can someone give some answers so I can understand what is going on behind the drum.
ok now this one is stuck fast. i bought a 1+13/16 socket for the hub nut. now the braking system is yet to be connected so when I tried undoing it I was moving the van. I moved the van until i had access to the adjusters. I adjusted the brakes but I only done 1 side, towards the rear. when I tried again with a large extension on the lever bar the van moved forward, I tried moving her back but she moved about an inch and locked solid. I tried again undoing the nut and snapped my 1/2 inch lever bar ! the drum has moved so I don't have access to the adjusters any more and the nut is VERY VERY tight INDEED.
It has been put to me to chissle off the nut and get a hub puller on it, and seeing as I am replacing the braking system it won't matter if the brakes are runined. Ok it sound fair enough but ....... if I damage the backing plate from a 68-69 they're like hens teeth to get again so i wondered if there is anybody on here that might have any other sugestions.

well boys + girls over to you.

Oh and if there is anybody in the Bristol Area with a hub puller I might be asking to borrow it ;)

Thanks very much.

Jason
