A simple question really:

Haynes manual refers to rear upper shock fixing as having a washer both sides of the bush, so when fitted, the bush doesn't directly touch the mounting? Elsewhere, nobody else mentions this.

I've just fitted 2 new shockers to rear, so added a washer on the inside, same size as outer. Is this right? Can't seem to remember what I've done in the past, and what is the right way.

Anybody remember?

Thanks.

I've only got washers on the outside face. Don't think there should be a washer between the two faces as the bush fits in the mounting. That's the way my van has always been and I'm not about to change it. Hope this helps.

Yeah, that's what I originally thought, and how both my vans have always been from memory. Just that when I checked for the torque figures in the Haynes manual, I noticed the exploded diagram showed two washers, on the upper rear mount, and even made written note of refering to them?

That's where the confusion set in - otherwise wouldn't have thought twice about it!.

Many thanks for your confirmation.

I trust VW Heritage more than Haynes.

Yeah, but that's not right though, is it?

For a start, there is deffo a washer on the outside, and the nut shown doesn't exist - it's a captive one within the chassis, and there is no such upper bracket.

I think this image is from a Beetle, which is defferent - I looked at this myself.

Only adds to the confusion.

Anyone got a clear diagram? Struggling to find one.

Nice one - that seems to support the Haynes Manual, with there being a washer at either side of the bush then.

Unless I'm mis-reading it?

I appreciate it's not a big ideal, but it's best to fit as it should be.

Many thanks.
