So to confirm the links above are for the correct inner and outer bearings ?

I don't know wether to press out the Vtech ones now and order up some of these or as they are in just role with what I have.
Really do t want to damage my NOS stubs.

Links below are what I have ordered, I hope they are correct  99% sure they are but obviously will confirm once it's all reassembled

Inner *** bearing:

Outer, this one is listed as a "Major Brand" however I called them today and it is currently *** as well. Worth a check though:

So bearings have arrived and look good. The outer is *** but made in India whilst the inner is German made. I hope the same quality controls apply and it has to be better than an unbranded Chinese bearing.

All pressed in, fit well and everything seems tight. Now I'm just waiting on a brake cylinder to put it all back together....

Have decided to follow suite with the bearings and replace the Vtech ones supplied by GSF. I looked at the Vtech bearings and there was no C3 markings and the cage on the outer bearing is poorly made.
One thing i have learnt this year is that GSF do not supply good parts and sometimes supply parts that could cause damage to your vehicle, i will never buy from them again.

They have there place in the industry, for parts that are crap from everyone.. Like klok panels, sometimes they are a bit cheaper. But other than that, pretty poor. Great if you need something like a cable or similar in a hurry, cos you can pick up.

Usually just buy oil and fan belts from them now, though most of the oil comes from ECP cos they're cheaper.!

You have got to wonder why every major VW supplier states that the only outer bearing available for the older early bays are these *****, no-name ones. Wish I'd done some research before I bought mine, time will tell how long they last...

I have no idea but a few things this last year or so I have sourced outside of the " Vw scene" and found the quality and service to be great.

Could be a good call, not a job I want to be doing again in a hurry. I got an FTE rear cylinder from GSF at a good price (£30 GSF or £50 from VWH) using the regular discounts. I think you just have to be selective and wait for a weekend, the guys on the phone are very helpful.

I imagine it all comes down to costs. I guess the VW suppliers can't get the same volume discounts as a bearing supplier so the cost through them could well mean they wont sell enough to make it worth their while

Just a quick update. Got everything refitted and had a trip to kings lynn over the bank holiday and everything went well! No noise from the rear and it's remained tight. Hopefully a good sign for the long term.........

Good news mate got my bearings in and almost finished put it all back together as I took the opportunity to do a few other jobs.
Interesting the *** bearings took more load to press in than the cheaper Vtech

Tighter tolerances I guess, hopefully a good sign :) Any other noticeable difference between the two?

Yes the the cage on the outer is polyamide, the cheep bearing is metal and machine pressed together, the pressings are poor and so sharp they rip you gloves when packing them.
The actual bearings in the cheep ones are quite loose in the outer bearing.

Well I built it all back up now, but I still have a very small amount of play.
It can be felt but not seen.
It doesn't mention anything about it in the Bentley manual.
I have NOS stubs and supposed good hubs, I fitted the bearings using lock tight retaining compound so can't imagine that it's the bearing moving.
Do you have any play at all ?

Cheers
Sam

There is slight play, I believe that's normal as it is a c3 bearing so when it warms up and expands the bearing doesn't lock up. The MOT man tells me it's normal every year :)

Just checking back in having done some research and it all points to the same as you suggest. Few! I was getting concerned.
