I have just had the front beam off my 68 deluxe. Whilst it was off I replaced the ball joints, swivel pin, drag link and both track rods. With the van still in the air I have turned from side to side but it is no longer a smooth turn.

its as if something slips slightly after about a quarter of a turn of the steering wheel. Then it goes back to normal for the rest of the lock that direction. Then the same going back the other way

Anyone had any experience similar? Thanks

Also check the steering coupling isnt cracked or torn (rubber piece between column and steering box) - mine was in a bad state!

The coupling looks ok although I do have another one on backorder from JK. I have replaced the damper, although it has a fat bit at one end which the old one didnt so it could be catching.

I will have a look tomorrow, thanks for that :)

So the diagnosis is the steering damper fouling against the axle adjuster screw.

Has anyone else had this issue?

Thanks
