After finding a leaky gasket on the exhaust the van isn't backfiring anymore but it's drinking fuel so I took it too R E Performance and they tuned the twin carbs, Ken said it's only running on two at low revs and that's why it's drinking petrol, he suggested it might be tight tappets - so can I check that the gap is six tho and can someone tell m the order to set them

Cheers

Charlie, can I ask why...? Ordered my missing parts from Kaddieshack. Been really helpful with advice so far, so fingers crossed.. Had mine idling sweet though. Didn't sound like two...

Are the carbs. Kadrons? If so that is normal that they will idle on 2. Nature of the beast.

My kadrons idled fine on 4 cylinders. I have heard ICTs with short manifolds struggle with some camshaft profiles though...

Well as far as why they idle on 2, I am not quite sure. I have a friend/ mechanic who hates Kadrons and that is one reson why he hates them. I belive that it has something to do with one barrel feeding 2 cylinders. I have 2 busses with dual kads. and they idle nice and smooth. but you can actually pull a plug wire and it doesn`t change the idle. just don`t give it throttle when the wire is off cause then you can tell its missing. Kadrons are not the ideal cards. You will find plenty of haters. But they are the budget way to go for a little more HP, cooler running engine. And they are simple. I like simlple. I hope this helps.

Fair donkey :) Hopefully get my spares from kaddieshack next week, so should be sorted from then... Personally I like the kadrons. People always said they're sweet when you get them right. I'm one of those boring people who will fiddle until they're perfect.... :)

Not Kadrons, some Chinese make, it's the fuel economy that's batting my head especially as I've just realised the inaccurate speedo makes it worse- about 20 mpg, the tuner said compression was down to 100 on the left hand front cylinder.
What do I do next? Any ideas?
I've done exhaust, timing, tappets and twin carbs

I had this problem with my Solex Kadrons. Turned out to be the accellerator pump adjusted too far out causing it to continually flood the carb with fuel, so drowning the spark and causing high fuel consumption.

Is that the kind of thing that changes over time? The guy who set it up on a rolling road set it up about a year ago with the same setup and it didn't have the 2 cylinder issue
