At the moment I,m unsure as to whether to buy a new Scat shifter or not. I like my Cab to be original as possible but sometimes finding gears with my original stick is a little
Has anyone fitted the gear shifter plate from Street Style Power? it,s advertised as a quick shift kit @ £6.95 & apparently reduces travel upto 40%. Are they any good & how do they fit?
Thanks Andy

spend your money on rebushing the linkage, costs less than 20 quid and makes a whole world of difference, never missed a gear in mine, just about to do my sisters.
unfortunately the only way to do it is when the engine and box are out.

I've been trying out a CSP shifter but (i) I've been having even more trouble finding some gears especialy when changing down and (ii) it dosen't look right if you want the original look (which I do)

So I've re-installed my original stick and then I'm going to have a look at the bushes/linkage

they take a little while to set up properly(as do all shifters including standard) but when done right are a joy to use

a new shifter was the best thing i ever bought for my bus

I'd recommend it

hi i've fitted a scat shifter to my 69 , got it from vw speedshop £85 and it's fantastic, get one.

Thanks,
But I really want to keep the original gear stick, I can see the sense in doing all the linkages / bushes but at the moment I don,t want to take the engine out which takes me back to my original question about the SSP quick shift plate - has anyone purchased / used one?

You can do the front end of the linkage which should take up some of the slack...
I,ve not really studied the linkage, what will I need where will I get it from & will my belly pans be in the way?
Thanks

look at this

http://www.vwheritage.com/vwh/VW-Camper-Van-Parts/Bus-Parts-1968-79/Hand-Foot-Controls/Gearshift/?srchPart=211%2D711%2D169%2FA

item 11 is a good bet...as is 21

the front components are accessed via the removeable front pan.

As for the quick shift plates, don't bother. It just raises the gear stick up thus changing the pivot point.
I found that when i had one fitted, no matter how much i tried adjusting it i could select reverse without pushing down

My baja had a scat shifter and it was lovely, it's on my list of wants for the bus.

my CSP shifter is brilliant and would probably be even better if the linkages were tight...the guys at machine7 said that I could replce one of the links really easily for a few quid but I can't remember the details...you didn't need to take the engine out though.
