Hi,
I ordered a complete set of TMI covers for my 71. They are very well made, exact basket-weave pattern as originals, but I found the black material to be marginally thinner than the OEM. Also the TMI ones only use single, not double sticking. This can be a problem when stretching the material (after warming it up) the stitching can give way on the pressure points.
This weakness was I think in part caused by the underlay I used :
1. Sisal mats over the springs
2. Wolfsburg-West Coconut matting - which is in fact a sort of rubber imitation, but is still very good and the sisal matting).
3. 2cm foam to bulk out the covers and give them a "blump", solid feel.
Rather than place the sisal material over the springs and then add the coconut matting, I simply stuck the sisal to the back of the coconut mats with evostick and clothes line pegs. This ensures a snug easy fit.
I then put the TMI covers on and used a tip from gadget - a bin liner on first to reduce friction. Then need a bit of effort, but when they go on they look the dolocks
At this point the sticking started to give way, but it did not split. I then discovered I had the wrong pattern, so returned them. I now intend to double stich the new TMI covers as a safeguard before they go on.
Here is the foam I used £20 for a mammoth roll. This was cut out and stuck to the reverse site of the TMI covers themselves as the stuff TMI use is too thin. Incidentally the OEM had the exact thin wispy material, so no fault of TMI. 8)
Here are the TMI covers
I have no idea what Wolfsburg West covers are like, I thought they sold TMI covers, as I bought a headliner from Wolfsburg last year and that was a TMI! Hope this helps.
