Which of the 3 notches on my flywheel should i paint white?

Thanks in advance.
Leon

I've always used the 1st notch as this is the biggest (well on mine anyway) which i take to be TDC then i think its 5deg and 7.5 deg BTDC.
If the timing gun your using has an advance setting the i always set the advance on the gun and use the TDC mark.
Hope this helps

Think a 009 needs setting at 30 deg @ 3000rpm (full advance) not sure how you could do this on the timing marks on the crank pulley.
Maybe you could measure the diameter of the pulley, make a template, mark off TDC then measure how far round it is for 30deg and transfer measurement onto your crank :?
A lot easier if your timing gun has advance settings

Best check my gun, but i'm pretty sure it hasn't.

That notch in your picture should be top dead center on number one cylinder.

Easies way to check is to take the plug out of number 1 and use a socket extension bar through the plug hole and roll the top pully wheel with a spanner to feel when the piston is at TDC. This will tell you definitively that the mark is TDC for number 1.

For an 009 dissy you should dynamical time it at 28 degrees before TDC, you will need either a strobe with an advance function or a timing scale on the case.

if it hasnt borrow your kids protractor and mark the pulley 28 deg (ish) to the left of tdc. make a small nick with a hacksaw, then fill with paint. that's what I did.
