hi all,
I'm soon going to fit a simple mains hook up. 3 plug sockets in total.
  • one double for things like charging your phone etc while camping
  • a single socket - which I plan to plug the trickle charger in to.

My thinking here is - when at home I can just plug the mains hook up in and then the on board circuit will power the trickle charger and then charge the batteries.

I can't see this as being any different to plugging the trickle charger into the wall at home and then onto each battery.

just want to sense check it all.

I know it's all a simple circuit and will have the correct breakers in it etc but wanted to run it past the hive mind!

Thanks

Ben

I have what sparkywig said. Luckily enough I now have 2 chargers so have placed one on either battery.
Plug in extension when home or on site.

I've got a CBE PC210 system I've installed in mine, control panel is very small and discrete and the charger is a multi stage charger so correctly conditions the leisure battery. It also charges the main battery as it automatically switches between the two. I've got two 240v sockets with USB's (I didn't want to cut new holes in the original cabinets so mounted the sockets where the original US ones were) and have hidden 12v USB sockets under the bed. Also converted the original USA hookup to 230v so I didn't have to make any new holes for a hookup.

I had one of those caravan cables (orange with blue 16amp plug and socket) so made a board up with with a blue plug, RCD breaker and a pair of 13amp sockets to go into the awning

I have one of these as well but have now wired this to the original westfalia hook up on the side of the van. The self contained unit is under the rear seat and the trickle charger just plugs in on one of the sockets. I have a separate LED switch panel with USB plus installed.
