Sliding door lock

I'm not the best mechanic so would appreciate some advice

My (RHD) sliding door no longer will lock either from the inside or with the key. It used to so I know the key is correct but stopped working after the trim was replaced. I've seen various threads on the cab door locks and little springs that can get dislodged ... is there a similar solution to the sliding door lock ?? Thought I'd ask before I take it to bits and wreck it !

with the door open if you twist the lock on the inside does the little rod come out over the catch?

no it doesn't : It was stuck out but I've checked it again and its not coming out at all :
