My clutch is sliping. Is it likely to be the clutch that has gone, or is there something i can try before pulling the engine out? I have tryed adjusting the cable, and play, in the pedal, is around 1 cm before engaging, is this too little?
I have also recently replaced the flywheel seal, and i cleaned the clutch up before re-assembling, it didn't look that bad when it was out! Although i'm no expert.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Leon

I cleaned it with white spirit!

It slipped a little before the seal was replaced too! I assumed this was down to the fact that their was oil on the clutch, hence the cleanup!

Could be a shot in the dark for you, but my clutch was slipping after i had replaiced the front beam.
In my wisdom when redoing the clutch cable (pedal end) i thought i waould tighten the nut/bolt on the pedal/cable as tight as i could get it resulting in the clutch slipping when driving the van and on a steep hill reving the scrotes of the van to get it to the top.

The cable joint should be able to swivel as the pedel is pressed and released.

I hope that made some sense :?

that is an oil.... :?

good luck mine was slipping and burnt itself out....a week or two after changing it, the cable went  ...7 miles in rush hour with no clutch

white spirit is a petroleum derived product but will evaporate leaving no residue given time...

how long did you leave it to air?

is it slipping all the time or just under certain conditions?

you could try increasing the play itshould be 10-20mm

however I guess its an oil issue or indeed the clutch is worn...

I think maybe you should have replaced the clutch when the engine was out - once a clutch is contaminated with oil it's pretty much useless, for me, it's engine out time again!! :(

Good luck with it, it's certainly worth adjusting it first - you could get lucky!!

;)

I left it a good hour.
It slips on hills, and if i put my foot to the floor in 3rd or 4th gear.
The play was about 20-30mm before i reduced it, and it slipped less at about 10mm.
I agree with Justin & Mutley, i think i'm going to have to strip it down again and replace. Driving to spain in 10 days time and don't want to take any chances

the clutch lever on the bell housing is that moving freely and returning fully?

is the return spring free from **** and waxoil etc...

are the bushes in good order

Is the bowden tube fitted correctly and clean

Cheers araon , and rustydiver.
I'll have a look at the linkage up front although nothing has changed in that department, but you never know!

Araon, i'm not sure where the bushes are so i'll have a look in the manual, and have a good look once i've found them.
I was reading about the bowden tube, and have not examined it either, not really sure what i should be looking for! It surgested the bow should be something or other, and mine did look like the picture.
There is a bit of gunk around the gear box so i'll have a good clean around.
Are you thinking it isn't the fact i used white spirit, and my clutch is fine.

as i said white spirit evaporates in its entirety without leaving residue (given enough time)

the two common faults are the free pedal movement and the oil on the plates, it could be that the linkage is binding slightly (engageing the clutch) and you not noticing it on the flat or you have a little contamination on the clutch....
