Hi,

No disrespect to the organisers etc - but is it me, or is this meet now full of toys, t-shirts and tat?

I bought two stop-n-tail light bulbs for my bug, and an emergency-light switch for the bus - but that was only cos I didn't want to walk away empty handed!!!

Did anybody that went manage to score a good buy/find?

Cheers,

Mike

Sorry only joking, no way was i driving a 7 hour round trip on the off chance of finding something.

Instead I've been freezing my balls off putting some wax under the van.

lots of t-shirts and toys, plus the usual sellers, ie mega bus, etc etc

and a NAZI security guy walking round the carpark, telling people theres no trading in the carpark..............the car park usually being the most interesting part of the show

ho hum

I noticed a couple of clocks (similar to those that have been on eBay recently) - but I didn't ask the price.

There was also an NOS middle front-bumper section for £140. But I didn't think it was worth it. Saw a tidy set of genuine 14" fuch's - but the seller wasn't about (as I was gonna ask if he'd sell just the centre caps).

Trading was occurring in the car park. I must have mosied around more than a dozen or so open tailgates - was all a bit "Del-boy & Rodney" LOL

I was tempted by a blank sliding door card - but by then I was just going through the motions and I wandered on... :(

Whilst inside I spoke to Mark Prosser (from Autotechnik who drag races the velvet green bay-window panel van). He said he bagged a pair of bay-window dropped spindles for peanuts. Lucky beggar!!!

Mike what`s the deal with clocks? are they "rockin horse ". Or do you just want one

I'd like one but not paying £260 which someone did on ebay recently.
Yes it was NOS but they just seem to have shot up in price.

most change hands around the £100 mark.

Considering I sold two complete NOS bumpers today for £185 each I'd definately say that was overpriced - or mine were drastically under.

Gotta admit, I love Slough, but this year was a bag of crap. Complete let down IMO. :(

The morning started with heavy rain but by the time we got there at about 10 Am it had stopped. My phone sat nav took us the wrong way, found the way in the end, follow the VW's! We went there in the Laguna as my engine isn't quite finished yet and I got everything I needed.
Second hand Kadron rear box to fit a header I've already got £12
New chrome Dynamo pulley in the car park £5
Second hand passenger sun visor £5
Second hand starter motor (the reason my engine hasn't started yet, killed the last one when my engine dies) £20
New Accelerator cable (For a late bay, needed longer one for my carb) £2 from Clem
Second hand 3 lever clutch pressure plate from the car park £5
Some fruity flavour lip lip balms for the little ones £5 from Carole.

I managed to get everything I needed at the moment.I was looking for maybe some decent cab doors,RHD sliding door and an engine lid,but didn't look that hard. They can wait for now.
Also Sprouty and I think it was Mike where there at Caroles stall. All in all it was a good day and worth the trip over. Not too far for me anyway really.

OK 4 me - got a pair of old door handles c/o Gary/Slammed resto, plus a couple of seals from C&C

and if I'd known you were there Carole, I'd have stopped by - maybe catch you next w/e?

gerry

I enjoyed it :)
Made a fair bit of money back on some parts and got myself a pair of cab door scaper seals/trims too so good for me.

Ive seen a few moans about the trading restrictions in the car park .... its local council property so will have byelaws in place, like any similar place. The hall is hired for an indoor swapmeet, and if its allowed to spread haphazardly into the car park then it will be stopped altogether.

A bit of prearrannged net trading is one thing, but it seemed that some were taking things a little far, piling stuff out onto the roads etc.

A table inside wasnt dear, after all .... Just my 2ps. :)

There wasn't much I wanted which was lucky, I picked up a pair of door and tailgate rubbers from C&C at normal price and that was it. I think with the number of shows, fleabay and the rest of the tinternet the bargains are all elsewhere

I agree that there were too many clothes, pictures and nic nack stalls and not proper 'swap meet' stalls  If you take away C&C, Mega Bug and Java who took up nearly three rows of the hall there weren't that many decent parts for sale
Mind you I don't know why i'm complaining as I picked up a genuine old school Scat electronic ignition setup including dizzy and box, Genuine fuel pump and a coil for £30 all in
:D :D

Well it was the quietest Slough I've been too, that's for sure. We did fairly well on the trading front, not as good as previous years, but it was great to meet all the guys and girls from the forum!

So Hi to VWAIRCOOLED, the Sprouties, Slammedresto and Harlequin...  great as always to meet up with you all. And apologies to Wannabay for not hooking up, next w/e should be ok.....

Clem, apologies I didn't come and find you to say hello, very nice splitty DC I saw you driving in though....tell us more.....

The halls were fairly quiet all day, and most traders starting packing up before 3pm. Lots of lovely stuff to be feasting your eyes on in the car park though, that was the best part of the day for me, and as always the sun shone and the rain only appeared briefly in the morning.

Carole

No worries, trading makes chatting difficult, and everytime I saw you you were loaded with 'flyers! :)

The double is my mates, I was a passenger for the weekend ... doing my bit to reduce my carbon footprint! ;) And petrols getting expensive

i got some bargin rubbers off clem!
its definatly not a true swapmeet anymore, mostly new stuff... even megabug only had a 2x4 foot area for second hand bits

It was my first Slough and we ended up buying bugger all (no that isn't some bizarre sheep related sex toy, but I think I may have just spotted a gap in the market).

It's was nice to meet you VWAIRCOOLED and also see Carole again as always.

Like Carole said I think the best bit was the car park, plenty to look at and wish you could get your hands on.

H (not that tw@ from Steps btw)
