The tyres and stance thread is awesome on this forum but for some reason it has all gone quiet since 2023! Would anybody here be interested in restarting this one? My starter for 10 is as follows: 195 50 R15 on the front with dropped spindles and 195 60 R15 on rear. All 4 tyres are XL with an 88 rating. French slammer 4 inch narrowed beam from Midland Bay and adjustable spring plates on rear. Ride is good but front wheels still hit the outer bulges of the arch now and again when I drive too fast over speed ramps or fall foul to a large pot hole. ET on these wheels is 20 so I'm thinking about going back to R14 steels with an ET of around 35 and running 165 x 55 x R14 to bring the wheel a bit further in and avoid the outer bulge. If its too low using the 165 R14s then I can shove it up a bit using the beam adjusters. Fun times ahead.....

Ozziedog,,,,,,,,,,for now anyway.:)

Last seasons ‘race set up’

Hi Guys. Glad you liked the idea of restarting the Tyres and Stance thread. I like the look of this set up and the Beetle in front has similar colour and ratting effect as my bus. See inset photo. Keep em coming.....

Wow.. Thanks for your pics Ozziedog. Looks like you've been up and down more times than a mountain Sherpa! Great stuff and I'm glad you liked the idea of restarting this thread. As some of us with lowered buses are using smaller profile and narrower front tyres to help with both the look (each to his own) and avoiding hitting the arch, but we are all aware that the load ratings for these tyres not available in ratings much more than 73. My own experience has been no problems at all over the last 20 years as long as I keep the pressure around up around 38PSI min. Now, I know I am in grave danger of being Skeeted for saying this, but I don't really give a f***.......However, I guess the forum would be interested to hear of any horror stories due to riding with tyres with a significant load rating deficit according to the manuals...............Looking forward to hearing comments from you all. Cheers, Scull.

The beetle in front belongs to my mate known as metal Dave, there is no ‘ratting effect’ it’s the original 63 yr old paint with a lot of patina.

You need to run a smaller width on the front, thats why its catching. We never run anything wider than a 165 profile on the front and never have any issues even with an offset of 20, its the extra width thats causing it to catch,
