Hi there, well this is first time on early bay, hope you are all well. First of all my name is Gary, alias Thesplitsombrero, I own a 66 split and my partner has a 96 Mex bug, in January I imported a 70 Bay, SO 60,61,or62, unfortunately the interior is not original and therefore does not have the westy plaque, looking at the history section it appears to be a 60 as it is a walkthrough model, how can i confirm this? The van itself is from Idahoe and was used as a promo wagon for Rolling rock beer, the person I bought it from actually won it in a raffle, how cool is that? To be entered you had to carry out some crazy tasks and take photo's as proof of your compliance with the rules. They kindly gave me a presentation booklet of thier antics, great read. It is also covered in genuine WOODSTOCK stickers from the early 90's, which she said are probably worth more than the van, so all in all an interesting van but it did need a great deal of welding to the chassis, arches sills etc and now needs a bottom end spray. It would have been going to the Pod this weekend but the HM customs people put the wrong chassis number on the clearance form and DVLA wont register it, (should be cleared next week). The other problem is putting an insurance value on it, is there a 'rough guide to the early bay galaxy' Anywhere? Hope someone can get back to me, happy camping, Thesplitsombrero

Hello and welcome Sombrero. Not well up on Westys I'm afraid but on the valuation issue this might help. If it is for insurance Footman James do an unlimited milage, agreed value policy based on what you say and a few photos. Might be what you need?

Hi Rosko, cheers mate but it's a value that I'm after, already with FJ for the split most westys are the, what I call, normal type. I've only seen one other 60/1/2 in Volksworld, but I cant remember what issue or if they put a value on it :?

Some pics would help so we can see exactly what you are describing and whether its an SO 60 then I'm sure quite a few on here (Clem, Johnny & Aaron instantly spring to mind) would be able to give you an indication on value,

'Most' are SO67's.

Tim has a SO62 shown here - http://forum.earlybay.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=7448

Hi Clem and Graham, it is the same as top two pics small pop like split SO 42/45 like I said, no ident tags and the interior is a reconstituted affair sink by the door, wardrobe, R&R bed, little seat behind driver and it's a walkthrough, I will take some pics and try to post them. Was hoping to take it to bug jam but the customs people put the wrong chassis number on the clearance form so DVLA couldn't register it :( If I do go I might slum it in the splitty, :D

Hi there all, I'm not sure how to post pics on here, so I've put them in photobucket, http://s229.photobucket.com/albums/ee280/thesplitsombrero/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; I hope these help with identifying the bay. The splitsombrero. :D

i think its a harder one to put a value on because of the rareity of the conversion. If it had been in original paint, no welding, original interior, you would be problaly talking upward of £12K

As it is... it looks rust free, has had some welding, the interior isnt original, doesnt look like original paint unless its been buffed and garaged, so id guess its been resprayed at somestage, the stickers indicate it has been well used

I would say, conservatively, for insurance purposes around £6-7K. Replacing it would be harder but have alook at Simon Halls post in the forsale section. He has some lovely Westys on for around £5K. Some of the traders might be more qualified to give an accurate valuation. I assume your not planning to sell so the figure is for insurance purposes only. if you were selling in its current condition i dont think you would get more than £6K, this is a rarer conversion and could possibly command more?

lovely van! and i would keep the livery for sure! 8)

Thanks Johnny, I will insure it for 7 to be safe. As for selling it I'm afraid I'll have to, my ex wants her money so the house/garage and most of my stuff must go, my daughtervtells me to think of it as a new start, yeah right :x new start with nothing :( Still I should keep the split, but 99 Mex 1.6i, Ron the Bay, syd the Scimitar, and billy the Blade will have to go, maybe my daughter was right :D I will try ebay can I post it for sale on here :?: Thesplitsombrero.
