Hmmm 8 weeks and not even started....GET IT OUT OF THERE...If they valued your custom and your Bus they would have started by now.
Years ago i had an MG and the MG owners club ran a system where members fed back their experiences of both part suppliers and garage services, this occured once a year and from this GOOD and RELIABLE suppliers and garage sevices could state for that year they are recommended by the owners club. This helped to remove some of the bad traders and encouraged the others to up their game. Great idea in my opinion. Looks like we need the same for the VW scene.
If we keep pussy footing around these people they will keep taking the P***.

if they dont agree to start this week , get it out of there .
taking the piss , would they wait 8 weeks for you to start paying?

Well I was told that they are to start work on it Monday but I didn't believe it at the time and probably still won't come tuesday next week, just didn't sound sincere and I think it was just a line to calm me down.

Who knows I may be surprised.

Hi Mark, you seem like a sound chap, can't anyone else do a spray job for you locally, I know it's your choice who you get to do the job, but is it really worth all this hassle?

I was lucky when I had my bus painted, I wasn't in a rush and I wanted a good job done at at least I was given the option of a quick job or a slower quality job.

I hope they haven't taken any of your hard earned cash from you as I would have deffinatly told them to poke it by now...
You must be one chilled dude. I hope your get this resolved soon.

Such a shame mate. Read your thread, you clearly put a lot of work into it.

Cheers dude, it's certainly had more than your average resto and all i ever wanted was a paint shop to match my own anal perfectionalism (yes i just made that up!) and match what i have done.

I think this would be helpful for all of us on here and encourage shops and suppliers to do a better job.

just hope the prices wouldnt skyrocket from this...

Maybe providing ballpark figures for jobs done and specific prices for parts would be beneficial as well.

Can we have a name and shame in another section without a slagging match? This would be a lessons learned scenario and keep all of us from falling prey.

Cheers.

Andy

I agree with Barking Mark.

I've got a 40 year old MGB as well as the bus and have found the MGOC rating system really useful.

Problem is really that the MGOC is an international club which is actually ran like a business (and done very well I might add), both me and my dad have had mg's in the past so we have been members a few times.

Problem with the Vw club thing is there are too many of them IMO, so it would never really be a fair deal for the traders as there are two sides to every story I'm sure. It would weed out the very very poor traders though that is true, the ones that simply can't satisfy any of there customers.

I would get your bus out of there. The company concerned took your bus in a rush (against your wishes) when you had been told work would be started straight away, why else would they want to rush it to the workshop? To then leave it in the rain is an utterly unforgivable act and not touch it for 8 weeks, *****. They clearly couldn't give a **** about your bus, or your trade.
If you do decide to leave it there, I would make sure they do the work on the front panel for free, the state it's now in makes me really angry, how disrespectful, there is no excuse for this, none.

Unfortunately our scene is awash with "really nice blokes, who have done a good job" who think that this level of customer service is par for the norm, it is not. If I behaved like this in my industry I quite simply would be out of work. The VW scene's "VW experts" rely on the generally laid back attitude we all have and exploit this.

All most of us ask when having work done is to be kept informed, updated and to be given genuine reasons as to why something is not happening, not schoolboy excuses, "miss the dog ate my homework", "sorry mate, I'll get on to it next week, definitely".

Really, really fed up of reading stuff like this. Really, really fed up of being treated like this, surely we all are, right?

Please everyone lets start to say no to ****** parts, ****** traders and ****** VW experts, I'm over this.

Can I get off the soapbox now?

In short, yes, very. To take your bus (urgently) and then leave it outside for 8 weeks untouched is piss poor at best. This company clearly couldn't give a **** about your bus or your trade.

Get them to bring the front panel back to the state it left yours in and then take it out and don't pay them a penny. Somebody give me a good reason why not?

So fed up with hearing stuff like this, not good enough, no excuses.

 Sorry for the repeated rant, didn't think the last post went up, on train. Still feel the same though. :x

Just to clear things up,

The bus wasn't left outside it was put straight into a storage unit, the damage done I believe is down to road salt.. Which stresses the f@ck out of me.. It's also not just the front panel all the door posts etc are bare and for me only shot blasting it now will cure this.

The doors are bare and were taped up and they haven't opened them yet.

So why are you considering letting them do the work?

Very good question, which tbh I don't know the answer too.

I don't want to spoil a good rant, but having sought the mood of the forum and got lots of good advice, maybe you just need to make a decision now and move on. Then tell us who the **** this is about so that the next willing victim can be forewarned of the risks.

Hope it turns out well for you, whatever you do...but maybe now JDI? 8)

It's a difficult answer , the atmosphere between you and them won't be the same as from the start and maybe a little awkward

The other bodyshops just over that big hill  ;)

For me the issue isn't the 'new' rust as that WILL be sorted. The problem I've got is how long are you going to be without your bus? They're 8 weeks behind schedule now. ...... And they haven't started.

I fail to see why you would now reward this piss take with your business? If I were you, I'd find a good local painter get it booked in and get your bus painted within an agreed timescale.

^^^^ This is the hard thing trying to find anyone local to us that's good, both myself and mark are using bodyshops twenty five to thirty minute drive from us that have come highly recommended to us from equally "anal" people !!

I've used a 3 or 4 very local bodyshops in the past and never been happy for one reason or another :(

There are other bodyshops further a field ,Midland paintwerks for example that we have both considered, at least I have anyway, theres no disputing there work and reputation but its just a little to far to keep popping in and having a look or to go and discuss any problems etc

Just my opinion 8)

Couldn't of put it better myself..

And yes I did consider midland and yes they probably would of been my first choice (like most people I bet) but like dale said they are just too far out of reach. My mate has his T25 with a guy in Bristol (we are just outside Liverpool) after a guy in Preston screwed it all up (this also involved trading standards and a simply body resto and paint job is heading for two years now) and its killing him not to be able to see it, they too have gone quiet and I do fear it's happening to they again..

It's also approximately a 50 min drive for me,

Is yours all booked in now Dale? Pm me that other body shop again and I might go and have a look next week.
