Hi, stupid question maybe, but could you explain what the benefit of these is please? does it blow air directly into the cab? and why were they in ambulances in particular?

These act as cold air booster fans. They are fitted inside the cold air channel either side of the main air box. You normally only get cold air when driving (as a result of ram air through the air box) so these allow you to still have the cold air coming through even when stationary or to act as a booster when driving at lower speeds around towns etc.

I am not sure why they are called ambulance fans - I don't think that it is because they were fitted to ambulances!
