So I got a little carried away on eBay as I was looking for a twin port system for my 1641 with twin port heads and bought a solex 30 31 pict carb. Would this be suitable for my engine or will I have to re list it :(

If so, are there any good rebuild kits around for it?

It will work but you will probably need to change the jets depending on the rest of your setup. They often come with a 50 idle and 120 main which will be too small for you. The air correction jet will probably be wrong too. This might help http://www.vw-resource.com/jets.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Second difference is they use a different inlet manifold to the 34 pict3 so you will need to check it fits the manifold you have. It might have a manifold adapter on for the pict 3 manifold though.

They do have a slightly smaller Venturi than the pict3 too. 25.5mm vs 26mm (I think).

Summary, it will work if want it looking stock but a solex 34 pict 3 would give you a little more power.

I have to say though I tried both the above carbs on a 1776 as I wanted stock looking but it didn't feel much different to the 1600. I went to twin weber 34 ict's and it like a different engine. Loads more power and gives a nice bark when you put you foot down.
