It will work but you will probably need to change the jets depending on the rest of your setup. They often come with a 50 idle and 120 main which will be too small for you. Second difference is they use a different inlet manifold to the 34 pict3 so you will need to check it fits the manifold you have. It might have a manifold adapter on for the pict 3 manifold though.
They do have a slightly smaller Venturi than the pict3 too. 25.5mm vs 26mm (I think).
Summary, it will work if want it looking stock but a solex 34 pict 3 would give you a little more power.
I have to say though I tried both the above carbs on a 1776 as I wanted stock looking but it didn't feel much different to the 1600. I went to twin weber 34 ict's and it like a different engine. Loads more power and gives a nice bark when you put you foot down.
