perhaps if you pack the dancing in you'll get the job done quicker ?

i just couldn't resist it

4 bolts / nuts / studs / whatever.

engine support bar.

tinware & seal.

throttle cable.

heat exchanger cables (if applicable).

misc. wiring.

fuel pipe.

yank.

topple...

crash.

classifieds.

just in case you *really* don't know what you're doing... you need the thing supported from below with a jack (obviously) then as you draw it away from the gearbox remember you have to keep it level for a couple of inches to clear the input shaft, before even attempting to let it down... don't be caught out

and remember; it's a hefty thing so you'll have to be prepared to give it some welly, although as anyone who has ever met me will attest i am pathetically skinny and weak and yet i can do it singlehandedly easily (handy 'cos i've got no mates  )

aaaand... safety first... engines can be replaced with ease but your hands and other extremities can't all that easily... if you feel it falling let the damn thing fall and get out of the way :|

*good luck*

Hi!

Starter motor bolt? Heat exchangers tubing and cables? Throttle cable, clutch cable maybe?

Alistair
aah... just re-listing my list... excellent idea :p clutch cable's got nothing to do with it however.

seriously though, don't get hung up on it being difficult... it only seems that way because you've never done it before.

it's years since i've done it, but from memory you have the two 17mm nuts at the bottom of the engine... they're in plain sight, then a bolt at top left (looking from behind the bus) which you access from the gearbox side, and the nut at top right which you access behind the fan housing which is a bit of a fiddle, and from which you'll get that tell-tale pressure bruise on the inside of your right forearm

these four fastenings and the engine support bar are the only 'solid' things holding it in place - if you have them undone then it's simply a matter of disconnecting the stuff on 'my' list. remember to label your wires... makes re-installation even easier. don't be intimidated by it, but remember that it's 17 stone or so and it takes some man-handling to move it. it's frustrating not being able to come and help because i remember the same feelings of apprehension the first time i ever did it, but it's easy once you've done it for the first time and i've done it several times since then.

i've also removed a few engines in my time etc. etc. etc.

  :p

Yeah, sorry, didn't read your post Mr Councillor

When myself and friend took mine out, (at Techenders) by the time i had walked off to get a spanner, it was on the floor, doesn't take too long to get out - took a little longer to put back in mind......

nicely summed up

that's the point i'm trying to make, albeit in a desperately long-winded manner

it seems daunting, until it's done, when it's like, "is that it ?"

......just an observation  ......if your pulling the engine and the whole van is moving  , put bricks behind the wheels :? ........

.......i have never done a bus engine but the input shaft/engine-gearbox separation is sometimes quite tight and needs a good old tug

may be going blind but do not forget the fuel line, need to disconnect from behind the fan shroud (gearbox side) and be read for an eye full. Took mine out last weekend and it only took about hour (one blot was missing though

If you remove the exhuast and then with the engine sat on a trolly jack move the rear engine support bar you can then lower the engine slightly and then simply lean over the top of the fan housing to access the two nasty bolts. Also if the gearbox won't be supported. So you will need to put something under so it does not hang down too far and damage the gear selector bush

thanks for your thoughts.

was sat watchin the football feelin abit down about it (the bus that is,won the game)
i have taken four nuts, bolts off but mybe the wrong ones, and taken every thing above off :|
