Been putting it off for ages (i knew there was reason why) but after being told loads of times and getting a text off Thru a Lupe as i left his house on monday i decided it was time to change the off side rear bulb as the brake bit was blown.

Now i here you thinking "thats a easy job" but me being me i had to remove the lights completely to clean and fettle the rims , lenses , bulb holders and clean and tidy all the rubbers.
I remembered now why id left it be for so long as if youve ever done this you will know what a pain getting the rubber to hold the buld holder and the body is. In between the rain showers and the cleaning of lenses etc its taken the best part of 2 hours.......................to change a freekin bulb at the end of the day.

Im sure i will have dislodged a indicator wire or something in the process so maybe more work yet..............

I want to change my front headlight glass to some nice Bosch (center spot) stuff ive got, but if youve ever taken headlights to bits you will know they are a rifgt pain as well.

Did VW make anything simple......................

I have to change my headlight too, due to the fact that a stone decided to jump in the way and lodge itself in the glass. I normally put cheap late bay ones on as I seem to fight with stones regularly. They don't look as pretty but are about 1/4 of the price, they also come fitted with the metal mounting ring so a 5 minute job to fit (until you get a stubborn screw or forget to mark on the wall your headlight settings).

I hate the raer lights!! always turn out to be a pain! mind you it would be easier on a slammed merc ;) 8)

I changed the seals on the rear lights last week and didn't think it was too bad (apart from a damaged thread), must be beginners luck I guess :)

I know what you mean about sometimes hating the bus though. Every time I think almost everything major is fixed something else will break

Well done 67 westy, like you said sometimes you get lucky. Just out of interest have you got both the body and the bulb holder sat in the correct groove in the rubber seal. ;) Just checking.

yeah, well I think so! bulb holder went into the groove on the inside and then the outside grove fitted around the body work. Was a little fiddly getting it in all the way round

this is exactly why you pay people to work on your bus for you....and invariably they quote a price way lower than you actually end up paying because ....add your comments here

i hate your bus too. its soo much more finished than mine

is this not like those super models who moan about being a bit fat or spotty on any certain day?

i would love to be in such a trivial moment as trying to get my rear light working

hope you got it fixed in the end. :D

If you spent more time in the garage and less time on here or soaking it up at shows or on holiday in france you would have about 12000 miles clocked up by now.

Talking of which where was you last week.

i was at camperjam getting drunk in my bright red water pumping t4

however i have spent all this week collecting the bits to get the van running for the first time in four years, and it took more than a bulb

if its running tomorrow then the spray job is in sight, then who knows, ive had the spray money saved so long ive spent it twice

aint that the truth...anyhoo whats wrong with crossdressers? my new toy happens to be a 72...as far as i`m concerned i`m well happy cos i can fit a standard 2ltr no drama :msn4:

yep - I'm not feeling the Love.

found some lovely new owners for my 72, driving to MOT station this morning, missed a gear. everything sounded a bit weird so pulled over and turned off within nano seconds......wouldn't start and felt very tight on the pulley. So towed home.

Engine out and the no3 rod was loose. so spare crank, new bearings and check everything AGAIN.....what a pita.

At least it was my PB for engine out and stripped down to case halves!!

Also my ninja reactions saved any terminal damage - I think I could use the old crank and a fresh rod...but I'm not taking the chance......Grrrrr

 I say leave it to the X perts, I am an X pert, there, I said it, I have come out, god that feels good.
Need any advice Clyde give me a call, advice at least still cost's nothing.
Hope to catch up soon.

Kinda pissed-off too, was putting my sliding door in primer last weekend, managed to drop the door right on the corners -twice!!!! each corner that is!!
So I just smashed it around a bit with a big hammer and just primered it like that
Sometimes just can't believe how BIG the bus is, lot of work to get right, goodness!

10p charge, thats for removing and cleaning the rubbers, wire wooling all the connections, polishing the chrome trim, brassoing the lens to remove some fine scratches and putting it back (which turned out to be the tricky bit) where abouts do i find you in France to do that for 10p. Makes it almost worth coming over for, well almost. Read the first post and youll see it was a bulb change that prompted the other work.
