sticking it on the roofrack is ok put even on a three bow rack takes up a fair bit of space and i found going away for three weeks i wanted the space for camping stuff more than i wanted to carry a spare. as far as blowing it up, tyreweld from holts seals and inflates at the same time.

having said all of this i am still toying with the idea during the old girls resto of using a merc collapsable spare that i can fit under the bus below the side door in a frame like on vans aty the same time fit a small copmressor under the bed or "reverse tub" the seat a bit and fit under there.

Very interesting that the road side recovery may not cover you if the vehicle originally had a spare...

The AA can out to me last week when my wheel came off

Was that just a case of reattaching it thought or did it need a new tyre? My issue was that it was a blow out so needed the spare to replace it, no spare=no help.

Sounds interesting. Would you please post up your solution if you get it to work?

I have mine on the front, its been there since the early seventies when I needed the space. It's there not for the look but to put the thing somewhere. With a full roof there's no rack.

In all the years I have had only three punctures on the bus but only one could have been fixed with a can of gunk. The other two were sidewall damage, hence I would never be without a spare.

I've found that the spare wheel fits between the pedals and the driver's side front wheelarch tub. Keeps it out of the way but not so steal-able :D

That said, I normally just throw mine under the bus :)

To be fair it was just reattach

Why didn't I buy my bus years ago !?

where to you keep the infill piece when in transit?

why not keep the spare under the bed when its in its bed position rather than outside. maybe put the spare wheel in a vinyl.material case/bag

I just lay mine on the bed behind the seat. I don't put anything back there anyway. All groceries or what ever go on the floor threw the slider. I don't want anything leaving an impression in the bed foam and the infill is light enough it won't leave a impression.

I'm probably talking out of my arse.. but i thought i read recently that a spare wheel was a legal requirement. Or was that in France?.. anyway, mine goes on the roof rack, if i'm camping in it, or in the wheel well if it's just cruising about.

Carry mine in the back on the floor and move it to the cabin when camping, stand it up in front of the drivers seat. Takes about 10 seconds to move it.

I had a plug made by deliiahs when they did the rest of the seats, they also made me a matching cover for the wheel when its in there

That looks nice :)

I have a merc collapsable on the roof rack, would be handy if i could get it under the van.

Just tried mine under the van and it wont fit, they do come in different sizes but theres not a lot of room mines 19 inch when deflated (the wheel that is  )

I have mine on the roof rack and to be fair ive thought of leaving it and having the tin of stuff...but on the motorway this Friday we saw a van with a blow out and there isn't enough tins in the world to sort that out.. ripped to s**t rags and doing 50 ish.. so tyre is staying. and what we really couldn't get, was its there second time in as many years..jeez I learnt from it ???

^^^this

keeps it dry and mud free. I like to have a spare wheel in case of a flat tyre.

Also got a cushion made up by Joanne at the trimshack
