I've just sent my blaupunkt emden radio off to tadpole radios to be converted from 5w mono to 4x45w stereo
it's what they call the 'standard' conversion so all the new electronics are fitted into the existing case and the operated by the existing dials and push buttons
So i'll be needing to install some 'proper' speakers to cope with the new sounds
I've seen spkrs in kick panels which i'd prefer rather than having to butcher the door vinyl/panels
and then a couple under the rear seat
suggestions/recommendations welcome
thanks

I'd also like to see some recommendations as I currently have no sounds, il be looking at fitting a stereo and locating speakers very soon.

I've been a fan of infinity stuff for years. I've 6" in the doors and 6*9s in the back. Sounds lovely and can be heard over the din of the engine/rattles/wife/kids

There are better but at much much greater cost imho

But i am running 4x100watts

x2 for Infinity  Had some in my Bug

Got cheapo JBL's in the 'van which are ok for the money too.

Go for summat big under the rear seat. 6x9's etc. The seat will act as a natural bass box.

In the front i'd say components. Put the mid's where ever, but the highs need to be mounted er up high to bring the sound stage up off the floor.

I'm actually going to look at mounting some in the front corners of the roof by the sun visors...

Infinity's, jbl's or focal's for me. Had my focal's over 10 yrs and have outlasted 3 cars :D

I know I've said it on other posts but Adam at Tadpole is a personal friend and lives just round the corner from me, so I am happy to vouch for him / his work. :)

Another for Infinity. I've got 6.5in components in the front doors running off a Pioneer head and they sound lovely - punchy and accurate.

The only issue I could see with mounting in kick panels could be potential sealing problems and hence, a lack of bottom-end punch but I've never tried it, so maybe someone who has could give you a better steer.

I had some nearly new Alpine DDD components from way back, 6" mids, x-overs with 1" tweeters married up to an Alpine head unit. Sounds great for very little outlay as the head unit was 2nd hand off the 'bay we call E.

value + quality i have Alpine type r's, 2 12s, 6x9s and 2 x 5/1/2, and some type x tweeters. Its sounds amazing.

Thanks for all your replies

So it looks like components up front and 6x9s in the rear

Make - majority infinity, then focal, jbl and alpine. On infinity, the only place that seems to sell them is infinity itself. Why is this ?

Kick panel mounting - presumably will lose a little bottom end because it's not a sealed box, but maybe put some dynamat or similar behind?

Cheers

I got mine from

http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/home.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

They were the cheapest when I was looking last year. I have used them a lot in the past.

I put dynamat in my doors and on the cab floor and walkthrough.

But I did mount my speakers in the doors as the kick panels are not sealed. You loose base and mid range.

Glad to see somebody else found the same as me.

Some years ago I tried the speakers in some replacement kick panels but reverted to door speakers within days due to poor sound quality (by comparison).

Rory at Tadpole radios turned my radio round in double quick time
and today i went to Dynamic Sounds over in wandsworth, S London, and bagged me some Focal 5" components and 6x9s
here it all is awaiting installation when I have a spare day

And thanks for the comments on kick panels v doors; the guy at Dynamic wasn't keen on the kick panel idea either, food for thought
