I have fitted a pair of notek spot lights and was going to wire them separetly from the headlights via a Hella auxillary switch.
But I now wonder what the score is regards an MOT. Should they be wired into the main or dip beam?

To connect spot lights, which can by law only be used WITH the main beam headlights and must be mounted within specific measurements, you should take a supply from the main beam headlights to a relay then follow the relay instructions to wire the lamps accordingly.

If you don't mount & wire them correctly, the car will fail its MOT and you could get a ticket from the police.

Hmmm, answered my question. But whats with the measurements, anyone know?

I believe its evenly spaced from the centre.

What noteks are they?

Had the single spot on my bug wired with the main beam and that was fine, got my current pair of noteks wired on a seperate switch that lights up when turned on. Going to wire them to my leisure battery so I can turn them on at shows if I need some light on a dark campsite without the engine running.

wont fail mot if you can turn them off from headlamps, always a good idea,if mounted below 2foot center of lamp from road classed as fog lamps and can only be used in fog or falling snow(3 points and 60 quid fine for all those dicks in modern cars )so normaly dont wire into headlamps.

Even better idea - remove the bulbs (this is what I have been told by a tester a few years back) unless someone knows different ;)

ProfessorWheeto, Noteks with the blue centre and ribbed glass, nice period look to them :D

So if I wire them in to my auxillary switch and splice into the main beam wire I can use that as my switched live?

or, just wire up to the auxillary switch as I first planned and have them on when it suits?

Cool, I had to paint the blue bits in mine with some enamel paint cause it'll all started to flake off. :(

Started with that

Wizz canned the backs, polished the rims, cleaned the glass, painted the blue bits, cleaned and modded the reflectors to accept H7 halogens. Ended up with these..

Total cost including lamps, bulbs and paint... £35 :D

Ah interesting! Never thought about sourcing the proper bulbs, took the old ones out thought "pfft no change" and made some adaptors

Handy to know they exsist though!
