just been out to bus to go for a quick drive, turn key, ignition lights on , then nothing, groveled under bus and found starter, wiyh the help of a friend found a supply to solinoid when key turned but no click! turn key, gentle tap with hammer and she started, appears to be solinoid.
starter looks a pain to get to so is it a starter out job to change, can you get the solinoid new or is it a case of buying complete starter or can solinoid be rebuilt, also have been told there are several different types of starter, will they all fit or do i need a specific starter ( 69 manual cali import 1600 )
also it worth the risk of leaveing it for a while to see if it was a oneoff , was thinking of getting 2nd hand starter and rebuilding it?

any advice, experiances or words of wisdom welcome
thanks in advance

Dave

Try your local electrics place, i had a similar problem on mine, it cost £15 to fit and supply a new solenoid. If i hadnt stripped the rest of the starter myself and found it to be good inside i'm sure they would've tried to sting me for more

First thing I'd ask myself when was the last time I used the bus?

Do I have anything that is likely to drain the battery even a touch?

then I would clean the connections give it a little while.

If it continues even sporadically I'd as above get a new solenoid and fit....

Most starters will fit, when i rebuilt mine i found that the starter fitted is from an automatic and the vans got a 4 on the floor :? Starts fine, just got to sort my carbs again
