The steering wheel on my 69' was 'wobbly', the nut was tight, so removed the wheel, inside the steering wheel there are no splines just been hacked at, am I right in saying this is a late bay steering wheel ? and therefore probably had the hole enlarged so that it fit on the early bay column.

I would think so. Replace it as that is unlikely to be safe.

Another quality bodge....

Yeh, well bodged, ignition barrel a total mess too, bypassed to a separate switch, and indicator stalk missing too, not the easiest of parts to find or the cheapest, but all part of joys of an early. . . . :D

Not the end if the world, if housing for ignition ok then just buy new barrel and both wheel and indicator stalk available new. If it is all knackered then buy a complete column second hand.

Yeh a complete secondhand column would be good.
