I have just converted from dynamo to alternator. Started the engine, red gen light stays on

Multi meter reads 12.3 volts

Disconnect the gen warning light wire from the alternator (blue/green wire), reconnect and... 15v!

Turn engine off. Turn engine on, red light stays on

Repeated disconnect/reconnect procedure and, again, 15v!?!?

This is consistently happening no matter how longer I leave the engine running. I HAVE to disconnect and reconnect the gen warning light and reconnect it to get the alternator working.

Has anyone got any slight inkling what the hell is going on!? I'm baffled. Cheers.

Ooooh yeh will give him a go.

Another point to make is I seem to get a 12v feed on the grounding plate on the back of the instrument cluster, me thinks this may be something to do with it. Off to have a play!

Sorted it. turns out the main beam light bulb holder has shorted out and was creating havoc at the back of the clocks.
