Howdy all,

Just looking for a little bit of advice re: removing quarter light windows from the cab doors.

Vans off for paint next week and the last jobs I have to do is remove the rear side windows (done today) and strip the cab doors down.

I lost the light in the end but I have managed to get the quarter light frame free but just can't get it out of the door. I'm assuming that the main glass has to go first but I can't manage to wriggle that out either. Gave up in the end as I didn't want to damage anything.

Also, what's involved in overhauling the quarter light frames etc as I'd like to get them re-chromed/polished. Anyone done this and/or have details/photos?

Hi,

I've been doing the same job and got stuck at the someplace as yourself!

I did follow the Haynes manual and also some aussie guy's video from youtube (although he was removing bug windows). The Bentley manual mentions the underside of the rivet (the one holding the glass to the frame) being ground off to remove the quarterlight windows.

I had already dropped the main window down inside the door, so all I had left to do was (if I'm reading your post correct)the same as you and pull the quarter light frame out.

I tried pulling the frame back towards where the main windows had been but the frame just seemed stuck solid (I had removed the lower screw at the bottom also).

I'm pretty sure that's what you have to do, but I'm stuck like you!

Drop the main glass off the winder mech and somtimes its easier to knock the bracket off and let the bare glass drop to bottom of the door then remove felt channel and screws and pull the light backwards down the channel of the door hey presto its out its a lot harder refit!

Yes, that's exactly what I'm doing/have done.

I've got the quarter light more or less out but it's just catching, I think on the bracket for the lower retainer if that make sense.

Walt, if I'm reading yours correct it sounds like you've missed the upper screw which is under the felt channel rubber.

I figured you couldn't get the main glass out with the frame in the way.

I'll have another crack in the morning, just didn't want to force it and break it.

As for stripping the frames, I take it the rivets holding the hinge for the glass can be drilled out and replaced??

just keep pulling then buddy! yeah you can get the rivets they come with a small fibre washer they are also a pig to fit ha theres nothing nice about buiding bay doors apart from the finishing of the last 1 always retain the old channel clips and internal rubber scraper including the wire holder if genuine these are still far better than any new item that you can buy so clean them up and reuse them. best of luck

Well one down

I did manage to get the main glass out in the end before the quarter light, but I think that's only because the scraper seals were completely shot.

Will battle the other side tonight.

Also removed the fuse box and wiring so I think we're ready for the off!

A bit late however I found this really useful recently, but it is still hard to get that quarter light out!
