Hi all! Like the title says I'm struggling to fit my rear bumper?
Not sure if its the bumper or brackets, the bumper measures 38 1/4" inner hole to hole an all i can get is 36 1/4" inner hole to hole on the brackets?! Also tried swapping the brackets around the other way but then only get 34 1/4"!!!!!
Do you think I have two of the same handed brackets?! Help!

Cheers
Wilf

might be a crossover bumper you have ,think the holes are further apart cos of the late rear end

Oh god I hope it's not, was told it for an early bay!!!
How can I tell? My bus is a 71 deluxe, Can someone measure the centres of their inner bumper holes for me please?
Mine measure 38 1/4 inches!!
Hope that's rite or I have a crossover bumper for sale an need an early one!!
Cheers

it is pos to redrill holes and if you want to paint it weld up old ones, that is the only differance between the two.

Is it not worth modding the brackets with a new end plate and then drilling the bracket to fit the bumper?

Hi Wilf, having the same issues my self. I actually have a 72 crossover and ordered a bumper and irons from vw heritage. Neither fit !! Had them painted as well.

I think this is a common problem, and I have been told it is best to remove the brackets altogether, drill holes and put bolts through into the irons. My irons were also no good, think Heritage give out splitty ones and say they will need modding.

As long as your irons fit onto the back of the bus you should be ok. Mine don't as the rear end has been messed about with during its resto.

Good luck mate.

Thanks mate,
The joy of restoring an old bus I suppose! Not sure what I'm gonna do yet to be honest, two choices really! Either try an re-drill the holes in the bumper I've got an weld the other holes back up! Or sell the painted x over bumper an buy an paint an early one?!
Not decided what to do for the best yet?!
Good luck with yours an I hope you get it all sorted mate

Cheers

mate, i feel your pain...i really do. i'm in similar position to you with a resto - hopefully the final stages lol

i bought 2 sets of plastic clips from ispwest in the states as they were cheaper and did plastic clips. after paying for shipping in duty, i opened them up to find one set. i complained and they sent me through another set with £0 value as i had already paid duty. couple of months down the line i try to fit them and find the screws that they sent in the kit dont even fit as the head is way too big!

then i went to fit my black painted wing mirrors that i bought new from C&C had the chromes stripped off and then painted. i went to fit it and turns out that they sent me two O/S. cant send it back though as they have been painted lol.

all niggly things like that really try your patience, but we still hammer on.

keep with it mate, and you will be smiling even more when you finish it :) thats what i'm hoping!

To be fair mate , all the work you have put in i would say buy a early one and paint it ( Easy for me to say ) ;)
