Piss easy

biggest tip support the gearbox rear end.. remember on earlies the front end (nose cone) only is fixed to the bus...

This becomes a fairly easy job after a few drops.
My number one tip would be to label up all the wires as you disconnect them.

Oh, and don't forget to disconnect the accelerator cable

 top tip indeed!(yes I did too)

oh and don't use pencil to mark the tape with either

And an old skate board and a couple lumps of wood come in really handy to move the engine about on.

Try and get a hand up to the starter motor bolt position and feel if the bolt is there. I have had a few instances when this bolt has not been fitted at all. Obviously some folk are too lazy to put it back in ,.....

Easy when you know how

Mines back together and running better than ever. Worse thing is ...it's easier than you think!
Just label your wires and disconnect your wrist to get to the nut behind the tinware :D

Also try not to spray fuel in your eyes when you do the fuel line  what a muppet

while its out mayb worth checking ur crank shaft seal is not leaking and the condiction of ur clutch and thrust bearing. don't forget to disconect the battery cos it will make u jump when ur spanner touches the carb. also the heater cables can be a giggle cut the clip if u have to not the cable it will be easier to replace. while i think on there is a little copper bush that sits in the crank case that gose on the end of the starter motor look out 4 that little fella can go unoticed.
all the best

Get your digital camera out and take plenty of pictures of your wiring, carb pipes etc - labels can fall off!!

Just be methodical and take your time, and remember - safety first!!

;)

I like to put down a big sheet of chipboard under the engine. It makes the trolley jack move a lot easier.
Other than that it is easy especially with a second pair of hands to help!

Thats good advice, its worth buying/borrowing a second trolley jack so you have one on the engine and one supporting the bell housing end of the gearbox.
Makes getting things lined up for installation a bit easier if you can move both engine and gearbox.

17mm ratchet spanner makes getting the nut on the starter motor bolt behind the fan housing a doddle.
