I broke down in the bay yesterday, in the pouring rain, wife and two kids on board and about 50 miles from home, so after wandering round the back and having a fiddle
i found the problem......the arm on the points had snapped clean off.
i had past a Halfords about 2 miles back and thought i would ring for some points but with no luck "special order only im afraid" was the reply so i had no choice but to phone the AA, time 5.50.
I spoke to a lady on the other end and explained the problem and that it was a camper van and that we had two small children on board also "ok we will have someone out to you by 6.50".
7.25pm.......AA man pulls up in a small van.... im thinking mmmmm i hope he has a set of points on board cuss he aint gonna tow us with that, " hello sir whats the problem", "points have broke" i say, "oh i dont think i'll have those on board" im thinking grrrrrrr :evil, i'll phone for the low loader he says " how long will that be i say, " not too long, about an hour".
So... 7.50pm were sat just off the dual cariage way waiting for the low loader, kids are now tired and in tears and wife wants to hit the wine,8.30 ish my phone rings " hello its the AA, we are pleased to inform you that a low loader will be out to you by 9.50pm
", now at this point words cannot describe the feeling of rage welling up inside which its fair to say was reflected back at the poor woman on the other end.
Time is now 9.30 and the low loader arrives with a driver that has no personality, sense of humour and well.... dosent give a s%&^ about anything apart from getting home, he wrapps the winch around the bumper tow eye and im waiting for the bumper to rip off...that was untill he grinds the bottom of my stainless exhaust into the tarmac.. ,
finally get home at 11.15 very tired and p^%&ed off and then spend the next 30 mins trying to help him get back out the street as its tight , finally he buggers off not before he had woke most of the road up and bent someones gate post
.
I woke this morning and fitted a new set which i had spare all with in 10mins....... the moral is carry a spare set in your van and only, only ..... call for help at the last resort.
