So, whoever placed the oil filler tube where it sits in the engine bay wants a quick lesson in ergonomics and operability.

Topping our thirsty bay up is such a pain, and I cannot be the first to think this.

So, what are the top tips for easy filling of oil into a type 1 engine?

Thanks,

Clean.

500ml Coke bottle has always worked well for me or a glass milk bottle

The best if the lot is the little one litre plastic oil bottle that has the extendable tube for when you are doing your gearbox oil. Leave the little poly extendable tube fully out with his screw cap on. It’s then easy to get the tube in the filler and give it a little squeeze just for topping up. I do my oil change like this then fill up two more one litre containers and slot them in behind the battery and then fit a treat. I also leave another near where the bCk of the van 3nds up. Before I start the motor, I check the oil while it’s cold and I got the little topper upper bottle there ready if needs be. If you do your check cold, you don’t even need to wipe the dip stick.

Ozziedog,,,,,,,,,,,,different for a warm check though

have a blow out and spend £4
That works for me too :p

I have one of those too, but I’d recommend glueing the spout to the jug as it has a habit of weeping oil over time and making the jug all oily!

Thanks, peeps.

I bought a bug fancy oil funnel thingy with the spout off eBay and the fooking th8ng won’t fit in the room available AND allow any sort of filling.

The jug jobby from Halfords looks bob on....

Nice one, folks; advice much appreciated and most helpful.
