Hi folks, hope one of you guys can answer this question for me

My bus was fitted with a narrowed linkpin beam in the us, im doing all the mot checks so there are no supprises when i take it for its first mot. As i used to be the mot assistant at the garage I get my mot's done at, i know what they look out for on old cars ;)

I had a look at the steering arm ball joints and they dont locate into the spindles propperly, the ball joint doesnt look like it goes in far enough as the shaft is too wide, so the nut isnt wound on as much as it should :?

What has everyone else done when converting an EB to linkpin? or should they go in right? or go i have to change them to some other type, late split ball joints etc???

Hope someone can help

cheers, Paul 8)

My link pin dropped spindles were modified to take bay window track rod ends (which are fatter than late split).

Sounds like you might have bay window track rod ends with your link pin dropped spindles so they wont fit through the holes properly.

Hope that helps fella :)

Steve is right, normally KnL conversions mans that the track rods are changed from the split to Bay.

Basically once the spindles have been dropped the track rods need to be run upside down, due to the ball joints needing a taper the spindles are redrilled. they use bay widow track rods as the taper is larger to acomodate the redrilling.

Are your track rods inserted from the bottom? if not maybe your spindles haven't been redrilled.

You could put some pics up which may help see the issue.

thanks for the help guys, i'll take a closer look over the weekend and take some photos of what i see

the beam was made and the spindles flipped & refurbed all by Aaron @ widefive in the us, who i bought the bus from

hes has a very good reputation and lost of good feedback on the samba, so i'd have thought all the work was done right, it says in the ad that they are redrilled n tapered to bay thread

heres a link to his work

i'll let you know what i find on saturday when i have a look

It just doesn't sound right but you never know, who fitted all of the components to the bus?

It could be that they are just put in from the top which means they won't go all the way through. A common mistake when copying a diagram as that is how they would sit before dropping/flipping.
