What is the correct 'original' position for these?

I thought the idea was to put them in the stock position then adjust them to make it lower, but I am not sure anymore? :?:

This is the current position, which I have lined up using the settings in the Bentley manual:

It looks way too 'high' - so the suspension will be too high.

This is the spring plate fully adjusted as 'low' as it will go, but it still seems too high and now there is no adjustment:

What do you all think? Are these too 'high'? Should I get them back off and reposition them in a 'lower' position to begin with?

I've got CE/T2D springplates and put them with one spline drop.
It took a couple of fittings to get them where I wanted them, as you can't really tell until you get the bus settled on all 4 wheels..

How could you tell they were one spline drop? Did you mark the old ones against the axle tube before removing them? :poke:

Mine was already dropped, but I have no idea by how much, so when I came to fitting the adjustable spring plates, which I presumed had to start off in the stock position, I thought I would just start completely again by fitting the plates to the specifications stated in the Bentley manual. :|

Remember that they will look really high till you get the bus back on its wheels and weight on the suspension. The idea is to fit them stock height and adjust to suit as they come with a 2 inch (?) drop designed into them, but it depends how low you want to go. I put mine on a spline up, but have them wound as high as they'll go so absolutely no point me having the adjustability!!

Thanks, for that explanation.

Do you know what the stock position is supposed to look like? If so, does the first picture look close? It is resting against the lower lip / stop of the axle tube. :| :?:

Remember that one outer spline drop + or - will lift lower the bus approximately 42mm to get fine adjustment you need a combination of inner and outer such as taking the outer 1 spline and the inner forward or backward depending if you want it up or down you can get fine adjustment, remember what you did so you can repeat it on the opposite side or use a angle finder? Chart below is from Volksworld, as i mentioned when i moved mine 1 outer spline it was 42mm.

That's about right, when you remove the springplates from stock you have to lever them over the bottom stop under tension.

Ah, that sounds like they are spot on then, especially as:

When I put the spring-plates on, they hit the bump stop and I have to use the adjuster to 'lower' the plate about 10mm to get them over the bump stop - I guess that is the equivilant of having to compress stock spring-plates using that special tool.

Good point. This thread it making me think that they are correct.

When I installed them, I used a downloadable angle finder to fit them at the angle as designated by the Bentley Manual for 'Microbuses'.

Note with the second picture, I took that particular plate back off to straighten up the adjustable part of the plate to ensure I had adjustment.

I think I might just carry on with the rebuild / hub install and hope that when it is back on its tyres with weight in it that it is okay with plenty of adjustment. It makes sense that from stock, the rear should sit a little higher as it is expecting the weight of the engine. So, engine + the 2" drop built into the spring plates, plus another inch of adjustment should be alright.

Thanks guys :party0047:
