Just to add I also have this setup (twin carbs and a hex linkage, 1641cc's, vacuum-advance dizzy, a moderate exhaust, and a slightly higher fast road cam,) although it hasn't been properly tuned yet.

It picks up noticeably better from idle without a hesitation and seems reasonably torquey.

I took the advice that you could be better with low-down torque that the SP provides on a bus, and it also means I could keep all my original tinware too.

I had twin ICT's on my single port 1600. Worked very well until the engine dropped a valve and killed itself (nothing to do with the carbs, just a very old engine).

I still have the inlet manifolds if you are not getting a complete kit to start with.
