Hi, sorry for the dullness of the question, but i've come across a running type 3 engine (42k miles from new !) that i'd like to use to build up a 1776 motor for my '71 bay. My question is how difficult is it to convert ? How much needs changing etc. p.s i'm also selling the squareback that it belongs to for spares as i can't face the amount of work needed to fix it !!!!!! thanks
Sorry, i've just read the message, and it didn't make any sense! (shouldn't watch telly whilst typing!, hopefully you've got the idea)

I think they are fundamentally the same aside from the cooling fan system, twin carbs etc.
IIRC the dipstick hole is in a different place and you would be wise to check the rear engine mounts exist.

Beg, borrow, or steal (well no not steal  ) a copy of the Tom Wilson rebuild book for
all the information you will need.

You'll need a oil dip conversion kit and all the ancillaries and tinwear. As long as it's a later engine with dual relief it should be fine.

I'm doing this with my 68 singlecab build. You'll need to drill and tap a hole for the oil pressure idiot light sender. The Type 3 has it housed in the oil cooler somehow. Good luck with your build. I'm doing a 1776 as well. Should be a fun ride when I'm done!

Cheers.
