tyre wear

my front tyres are wearing really badly on the outer edges , partically the left ,also the steering pulls to the left even after having the tracking done.
When i got it , it had new suspension arm bushes ,new ball joints , track rod ends. Is it pos that the the suspension arm bushes have been fitted wrongly , thus altering the camber . Any idears . :roll:

Earlier this year i had new ball joints top and bottom on my 68 bay.
The tyres had been wearing on the inside badly.
I thought somthing had broke when I went to drive with my new joints as the steering was virtually unmovable.

I took it to an air cooled specialist and had the tracking and camber set up, and fitted new tyres and its now like its got power steering.

My camber was so far out it was off the scale the guy told me.

It is important to get camber and tracking done if you lower your front end too.
it cost £25 quid to get it set up.

Had a look at the camber adjusters , mine were both way out , quite an easy job to do , loosen the nut under the ball joint and then turn the adjuster so that the small groove on one of the flats is facing forwards .Putting heavy duty shocks on this week, pair of new tyres , then get the tracking done , hope that will have done job and improve the handling.

I think you may need to have it checked out though. both mine were pointing forward but lots of adjusting was required. My steering is nice and light now.

Yeh your right , I would like to get it checked professionally , but trying to find somewhere that can do it down here in Cornwall is proving impossible. Might have to wait till I go camping elsewhere.

Give North Cornwall VW Centre in Wadebridge a try, it is run by a guy called Bernie Muir, who is a very experienced VW mechanic, that is where I take all of my hard to do stuff. They are behind the Regal Cinema in the main street.

Update , fitted new shocks, had camber checked , fitted new tyres and tracking done , now its soooo much better, all thats left to do is striaghten up the steering wheel by adjusting the draglink which was also renewed before I got the van.

Hi m8. good news then in the steering department.
you'll have to check the tracking again though if you mess with anythig to do with steering. take it back to where you had it done and ask them to check it again and hopefully you wont get charged again
