My bus ('72 crossover) has a replacement engine with an AD code - should I use unleaded fuel? Is there any way to check for sure without stripping the heads?

cheers

;)

'Tis true - all veedub engines don't require any mods so long as you don't thrash
the nuts off it all the time

ive never had a problem, just look out for "pinking" or pre-detonation

mind you if you engine isnt in fine fettle then its not gonna last long anyway...

If the engine is timed right it shouldn't pink on unleaded. The engine is timed for 91 octane fuel, unleaded is 95 octane so in theory you could get a few more degrees of advance before pinking starts.

i always keep an eye on an aircooleds timing as its the easiest way to destroy an engine.
add going to unleaded into the equation and it becomes more of an issue.
i stick mine at 7.5 BTDC and go from there.
