Hi,

I have a pretty quick/reliable 1776 motor which constantly ran 15.1/15.2 quarter mile times in my old 67 bug, and I had planned to drop into my bus (if it ever gets finished lol!).

But... I'm now wondering (while I have some time to kill lol!!) if I should consider upgrading the 1776 to something more beefy to handle the extra weight of the bus. i.e. upgrade the current crank (a genuine 69mm Okrasa) to a 78.8mm or bigger!

One crank I am looking at is a forged CB 78.8mm c/w unit.

I think my current heads (Jeff Denham 40x35.5) and carbs (twin 44 webers) should be ok for the increased displacement (78.8mm x 90.5mm = 2027). I guess the case would need clearancing - due to the increased throw, but would I need a new cam (but cant remember what mine is - it's a Berg of some sorts)?

Any thoughts, suggestions (ideas of costs maybe)?

Cheers,

Mike

Pull your oil pump and look what is stamped on your cam ;)

Seems yo be a good setup, I've a similar one (78*92) and it runs strong in the bus.If you choose H beam rods with 3/8" ARP2000 bolts case will need minor clearancing, with some I beam rods wich are thicker, you'll need the same amount of clearancing as my engine.

Thanks for the tip. Will find out what the crank is when the strip down begins :)

One question for anyone: Nitriding. Should I buy a crank that is NOT nitrided. If it hasn't been nitrided, could you get it nitrided (any idea of costs)?

You might aswell go for the bigger crank as it's going in a bus. It should work fine with those heads as the smallish valve will help with low down torque.

I'm going with an aluminum case, 94mm B&P's, and 82mm chromoly crank for my bus. 2276cc.
