just above the middle
under the bus trying to get the engine and box out.as far as I know, following the book, everything is disconnected,un wired etc. however...

The shift rod is still keeping hold of the shift coupling! the little wired pin is out and clear and the thing is soaked in WD40 - still solid, when I move the gear stick the whole engine/box moves - its that jammed!

any ideas how to free it - its stopping me doing anything else!!?

You are taking the engine & gearbox out anyway - correct?
If so then remove the bolt through that goes through the centre of the coupling & shift rod and wriggle the rod out.
Once youve dropped the gearbox & engine - remove the coupling using extreme force ;)

thanks Loxy, i can't see how the coupling comes apart though, looks like factory unit. the screw is out of the coupling but can't see how the 'bar' comes out of the coupling frame - something on either end of the bar.......

The other part is a sleeve that fits through the coupling (the screw fits inside it from the other side & just holds it in place). So you have to pull it out in order to allow removal - its the funny looking bit on the bottom part of your pic - with wings (possibly the worst description ever but strongbow is starting to muddle my mind  )
Failing that just use a hack saw blade to cut the coupling housing then revert to extreme violence once its out ;)

GOT IT! cheers Loxy - you da man! I managed to push that rod out of the coupling, took the lot out now! even with the gearbox out and a good swing - the thing still took some getting off!

Ta mate!
